Exactly a year since Russia invaded Ukraine, we are privileged to hear from Tim Marshall, a leading authority on foreign affairs with more than thirty years of reporting experience. Diplomatic Editor at Sky News and a former BBC journalist, Tim is also an internationally renowned author – perhaps best known for the phenomenally successful Prisoners of Geography.
Tim Marshall will be reflecting back on the largest war in Europe since 1945. In the past 12 months, over 7,000 Ukrainian civilians have lost their lives and many more face daily bombardment. The outbreak of the conflict resulted in a humanitarian crisis, with thousands of Ukrainians fleeing their homeland and seeking refuge in neighbouring countries and beyond.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has had a seismic global impact with significant disruptions in trade, a global food crisis, soaring inflation and surging energy prices. The events of the past year have broken the post–Cold War European security order, destroyed years of bridge-building between the West and the Kremlin, and prompted an unprecedented level of Western support for Ukraine’s military and intelligence forces.
