Hampton School’s Rock Concert 2023 treated a packed Hammond Theatre audience to a selection of rock classics and original numbers from Hamptonians across the year groups.

Ably presided over by Sixth Form compères James O’Donoghue, Monty Fletcher and Freddie Hoffmann-Becking, the Hammond Theatre saw an eclectic mix of music accompanied by dazzling visual and special effects that contributed to a spectacular evening.

The show kicked off with Fifth Year Alex Trevers playing his electronic interpretation of The Weekend’s Starboy. Will McKillop lit up the Hammond Theatre stage with his cover of Metallica’s Master of Puppets and Fourth Year band Conglomeration gave a superb rendition of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ track Californication. Junior Rock Band finished the first act with two crowd-pleasing numbers, Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey and the Bon Jovi classic Livin’ on a Prayer, which brought the Hammond Theatre audience to their feet.

Sixth Form band Snail Chase launched the second half with a funky cover of Are you Gonna be my Girl from Australian rock band Jet. Scatter took to the stage to for the inaugural performance of their original song Get Out of Here. Third Year guitarist Daniel Tresidder had the audience tapping their feet to his rendition of the 1958 song Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry.

Junior Rock Band, comprised of Second Year musicians, performed an impressive rendition of the Guns n’ Roses classic Sweet Child O’ Mine. Senior Rock Band closed the show with an effective mix of contemporary and classic rock with Arctic Monkey’s I Bet you Look Good on the Dance Floor and the Foo Fighters track Everlong.

Rock Concert 2023 was a fantastic evening of performances from Hampton’s musicians that raised the roof of the Hammond Theatre. Well done to everyone who played. Rock on!

Music teacher, and organiser of the evening,  Mr James Ferrier, praised all those involved:

The talent of Hampton musicians of all ages never ceases to astound me – every act onstage performed superbly and contributed to a brilliant evening of entertainment. I look forward to seeing what our pupils have to offer at the summer Rock Concert!
