Fourth Year pupil Isaac Crowhurst has been announced as winner of the Connell Guides Short Story competition in the Year 11 and under category.

The competition, judged by Jeremy Paxman, challenged young writers to create a short story of no more than 1000 words on A Random Act of Kindness. Isaac wrote a superb entry and wins £100 along with a selection of Connell Guides. Mr Paxman and his judging panel were particularly impressed by the high standard of all of this year’s entries.

Mrs Helen Booker, English teacher and one of the founders of The Writers’ Room, praised Isaac on his superb achievement:

I am absolutely delighted by Isaac’s success in the prestigious Connell Guides Short Story Competition. Isaac has been a regular member of The Writers’ Room lunchtime club where pupils have developed creative writing skills and the confidence to share their writing with one another and more widely. By winning a prestigious national competition, Isaac has proved to himself and others that it’s worth being brave with our writing. I congratulate him wholeheartedly.
