Hampton’s 1st XV will be looking to produce some strong performances this weekend at St Joseph’s College National Schools Rugby Festival  Sixteen of the top school boy teams in the country will be in Ipswich competing for the title in what is one of the most challenging encounters in the rugby calendar. Hampton has an excellent record in this competition being trophy winners in 2015 and Plate winning squads in 2016 and 2018.

The teams are split into four groups of three over the weekend’s festival with all schools playing three matches on the opening day. The top two teams in each group then move forward to compete for the De La Salle Trophy.  The bottom two teams from each group qualify for the Bowl quarter finals. From there, winners in each competition progress to semi finals in each competition, losers move to the semi finals of the Plate (for De La Salle Trophy quarter final losers), and Shield (for Bowl quarter final losers. Each of the competitions will have a final and a third place play off, meaning that every side in the Festival will play six games over the course of the weekend, three on each day, and at the end of the Festival every side will be able to be ranked from 1 to 16.
