Hampton’s First Chess team have won the Online Under 19 English Chess Federation Schools Championships.

Competing against Wilson’s School, Reading School, King Edward VI Camp Hill School and KCS Wimbledon, Hampton’s team of Alfie Onslow, Rajat Makkar, Ben Hammond, Naavya Sharma, Arjan Sian, Abhishekdev Ramesh and Riyaaz Khan were victorious in both the Rapid and Blitz contests.

In the Rapid tournament, Upper Sixth Chess Captain Alfie and Third Year Rajat both achieved a clean sweep in all five of their matches whilst in the Blitz tournament Hampton’s chess players were named winners with a round to spare.

Director of Studies, Mr Alasdair McBay, was delighted with the boys performance:

It’s a tremendous achievement for our chess players who have not played competitive chess for the School all year. We’re all very much looking forward to playing over the board chess later this year.
