This year’s football season has included plenty of highlights, with 360 matches played across the year groups. The U16 squads are enjoying particular success on the football pitch as both the U16A and U16B teams have progressed to the latter stages of their respective English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA) competitions.

The U16B footballers are seasoned ESFA finalists, having reached the same stage of the competition as both U14B and U15B players. A tense semi-final encounter against St Aloysius College ended in a 1-0 victory, booking Hampton a place in the ESFA final where they could yet again meet perennial rivals Sandbach School.

The U16A team are also progressing well in the same competition, after a convincing 3-0 victory in the quarter-final against St Peter’s C of E School in Exeter. They will hope to join their U16B teammates in the final stages of the cup competition, when they play their semi-final match after half term.

Head of Football, Mr David Burke, congratulated the Fifth Year footballers on their commitment and a series of excellent performances this season:

A fantastic achievement by both squads and thoroughly deserved following all their hard work – not just this season but throughout their time at Hampton. Our U16B footballers deserve a special mention after reaching their third English Schools’ FA Cup Final – a remarkable achievement.

Hampton is now looking forward to an exciting few weeks of football, as alongside our U16 footballers, the Second XI will contest their ESFA semi-final match against Harris Academy and a number of Hampton teams are still in contention in the London Independent Schools’, Surrey and Trinity cup tournaments.
