The Senior School production saw pupils from Hampton and LEH put a modern-day spin on Shakespeare’s famous tragedy Romeo & Juliet.

The production told the story of a bitter war between rival gangs, the Montagues and the Capulets, from the estates of modern-day London, which results in the violent death of two young lovers from the warring families. With a pared-down cast, the fast-paced and energetic performance covered contemporary themes and was accompanied by an urban soundtrack.

Drama teacher Mrs Nikki Plowman, who directed the play, praised the young actors:

Shakespeare remains as relevant today as when he was writing nearly 450 years ago. Beautiful language and the enduring story of two young lovers thwarted by their feuding families, provided Hamptonians with both challenges and rewards. Well done to everyone involved!
