Hampton’s musicians and choristers began the festive season with two wonderful Christmas Concerts.

Christmas Concert One had an eclectic mix of performances ranging from the Junior Guitar Ensemble, who began the evening with Jingle Bell Rock, to the Brass Band, who gave a rousing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Hampton Sinfonia performed a Doctor Who Medley, ably arranged and conducted by Sixth Form pupil Callum Daniel.

A highlight of the evening was the appearance of over 140 First Year Hamptonians who had their first experience of performing on the Hammond Theatre stage. The pupils entertained a packed audience with their energetic delivery of Shoulda Been a North Pole Elf, which even included a spot of choreography!

Christmas Concert Two began with the Voices of Lions’ festive performance of Here Comes Santa Claus, followed by the Chamber Choir with a magical rendition of Ešenvalds Stars, ambitiously accompanied by water-tuned wine glasses.

Both concerts culminated in a wonderful performance by Sixth Form musician Stephon Umashangar, who played the first movement of Grieg’s challenging Piano Concerto in A Minor. Stephon, who was supported by the 40-strong Symphony Orchestra, received a standing ovation from the packed auditorium.
