Eight Hampton pupils have been announced as Young Reporter award-winners in this year’s South East region online journalism scheme.

Over 600 budding journalists from schools across London and the South East participated in the Young Reporter scheme, which required entrants to produce eight articles over a period of eight months on a local subject of their choice. Lower Sixth pupils Bart Briston, Luke Jefferies and Harry Lawrie, Fifth Year’s Josh Bartholomew, Nathan Chapplow and Ross Hyde and Fourth Year pupils Rizwan Hatimi and Patrick Helm have been named as successful Young Reporter finalists.

The boys will attend a student journalism day at Kingston University later this month, where they will research and write articles for a one-off edition of a student newspaper, the London Comet. They have also been invited to the scheme’s awards ceremony at the end of the Summer Term, where they will find out which of their submitted pieces was successful, and in which category.

Newsquest coordinator and organiser of the competition, Ms Diana Jarvis, praised all of the 51 Hamptonians who participated in this year’s initiative:

The standard of Hampton articles was excellent and the Hampton boys consistently uploaded their pieces month after month.

This is the fourth year that Hampton has encouraged pupils to take part in the scheme, with the numbers of winners increasing year on year. Well done to all of the Hampton pupils who participated.
