The inter-form quiz competitions have become a regular feature on the Hampton School calendar and this year is no exception, as Alex Fagan from the Lower Sixth reports:

At lunchtime on Thursday, representatives from L6JSC and L6AWK locked horns in a closely fought quiz match. After a tense 30 minutes, it was L6JSC who prevailed and so progressed forward to the next round of the competition.

Thursday’s match was a quarter-final encounter which formed part of the Lower Sixth Form Inter-Form general knowledge quiz competition, held annually. Each form puts forward a team of four to compete in a University Challenge-style competition.

In this particular match, notable performances include that of Ben Cheeseman and Jamie Drew, both captains of their forms’ teams. Jamie succeeded in winning four starter questions for L6AWK, but it was the collective knowledge of their opposition which ended up leading to their victory, and progression to the semi-final.

The competition is run by Classics teacher Mr Hitchings and Maths teacher Mrs Watson-Evans, and features questions from topics as wide-ranging as biology, ancient history, poetry and pop music. The elaborate buzzer system also helps add to the sense of excitement felt when taking part in one of the matches.

Overall it was a great match to be a part of, and everyone is looking forward to the rest of the competition, culminating in the final on Monday 11th October.
