There have been rave reviews for this year’s Senior School Musical, which has been delighting audiences in the Hammond Theatre this week. Alex Fagan tells us all about the show:

Throughout this week, pupils from Hampton and LEH have been performing this year’s joint musical, Crazy for You. After months of dedicated preparation and numerous rehearsals, the show has come to a thrilling climax to be enjoyed by all. This performance has an added significance in it being Musical Director, Mr Iain Donald’s, last show at Hampton.

Crazy for You features music by George and Ira Gershwin, originally written in 1930, and tells the timeless story of a city boy falling in love with a country girl, and trying to save a decrepit theatre in the process. The Hammond Theatre, transformed into the Nevada desert, was the perfect backdrop to showcase the extraordinary talent of all of the cast. Particular mention must go to the principal roles, with Matt Mundy playing Bobby Child and Anastasia Hotchin as Polly Baker.

Director Mrs Jo James has put enormous energy and time into putting on such a fantastic musical. Gershwin’s music was brought to life by the orchestra to accompany dance routines expertly choreographed by Mrs Petrina Tate. Overall, the show was a fitting tribute to Mr Donald’s 22 years at Hampton. Cast member, Lower Sixth pupil Dylan Little, perfectly summed up putting on the musical:

It’s been a fantastic experience to work with a great group of people to achieve something really special.
