It has been a very busy first full week at Hampton for the First Years! The co-curricular clubs have now started and the boys certainly seem to be making the most of everything that is on offer. A number of boys have started taking part in activities such as rock climbing, karate and drama club. It was also great to hear that many boys have been selected to take part in the various Hampton choirs this year. Whilst it has been very busy this week, it has been lovely to note that the First Years are still making the time to get to know one another over a game of football on the 3G or having a chat over lunch.

Many boys have started to accrue plenty of merits and they are to be congratulated for this. A reminder to all the boys to remember to collect their merits and that once they have gained ten they should see Mr Hill to collect their prizes! Now that the First Years have started to find their feet at School, it would be great to see them being really proactive with this. Congratulations also to William W (1L) who is today’s Tutee of the Week.

We were delighted to hear of some public speaking success amongst the First Year team, too. Very well done to Jerome S (1P) and George S (1P) for achieving their Highly Commended certificates in the 2018 Young Speaker of the Year competition. What an excellent achievement! It was also fantastic to hear Mr Knibbs praising the First Years debut performances on the football pitch. The U12A, B and C teams accrued a phenomenal 30 goals between them against John Lyon School and kept an impressive three clean team sheets. Huge well done to the U12B team who, Gabriel F (1W) tells me, won 13-0! We all send the very best of luck to the rugby teams who make their debut against St John’s School, Leatherhead this weekend. Go for it, boys!

Next week is set to be another busy week with our trips to Avon Tyrrell being the particular highlight. We are all very much looking forward to all the activities on offer and hope that the boys have a great time. In the meantime, a restful weekend is in order to prepare for all the fun – here’s hoping for some sunny weather next week!
