Over 70 children from primary schools across the area battled it out for the title of Hampton School Maths Wizards Champions.

Teams of Year 5 pupils from each school gathered in The Hammond Theatre and put their heads together to tackle a range of maths challenges in a bid to win the coveted Maths Wizard Trophy.

Hampton Mathematics teacher,Hannah Clarke, who organises the event says it is designed to show case how rewarding and exciting learning maths can be.

This is a fun competition that promotes team work and problem solving. Our mission is to instil a love of learning maths in all the pupils who attend.

Congratulations to all the young mathematicians who participated on the day and who demonstrated excellent number crunching skills. The runners up on the day were Marshgate Primary School (3rd) St Mary’s & St Peter’s Primary School (2nd) and in first place and winners of the Maths Wizard Trophy 2018, were Chennestone Primary School. Well done!
