It has been a very busy week at School for the First Years, with trips, speaking exams and preparing for fixtures keeping the boys occupied!

The week started with a fantastic RS trip to Neasden Mandir and the London Jewish Museum. 1H and 1L were out on Monday,1B and 1P on Tuesday and 1W and 1J on Wednesday. We enjoyed wonderful hospitality at both venues and the boys behaved very well throughout the day on all trips, so well done to them! At the Mandir, the boys enjoyed learning about the history of the building and spending time exploring the building itself and looking at the murtis which we had studied in lessons. They also spent time learning more about the history of Hinduism at the exhibition before taking part in a Q & A  session and watching the Arti ceremony. It was excellent to note that a number of the boys asked some very interesting and insightful questions during the Q & A sessions and that they showed a sincere interest in learning more about the Mandir and the people who worship there. 1P tell me that they especially enjoyed their time at the Mandir and were blown away by the incredible architecture. They also thoroughly enjoyed all the singing and interaction at the Arti ceremony. At the London Jewish Museum, we were treated to some really interesting workshops in which the boys explored an exhibition on Jewish artefacts and learnt to write their name in Hebrew. It is certainly fair to say that some of the boys demonstrated some very skilful penmanship! Thank you to 1H’s Form Tutor, Mr Jenkins, for organising such an enjoyable trip for all of us.

The cricket season will continue on Saturday with fixtures against Reed’s School – fingers crossed that the fine weather continues so the boys can enjoy scoring some runs in the sun. It has been a great season so far for our cricketers. Oscar M said, “The Under 12C team have had a good season so far. We have lost a few games, but they were quite close and most of our games have been wins. Our fielding has been good and there has been lots of good bowling and batting.”

The Under 12B team have won all of their games, the whole team has been scoring lots of runs and Conrad K has been doing some particularly impressive bowling. The Under 12A team are also doing well, having won three matches and lost one. Naavya S is performing particularly well across the board and Sam S is leading the team positively (with the help of an injured Leo H).

Overall, it has been another great week at School and particular congratulations to Nick L, who is this week’s tutee of the week! We hope you all have a very happy weekend.

Miss G. Russell
