Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way…. The Christmas spirit has started to infuse the school, and the arrival of the tree in the main reception always means that it won’t be along until the end of term. In the meantime there is plenty to cram into the remaining few weeks.
The democratic process has been in robust health in the First Year this week, as we have held both our Year Council and participated in the School Council. These forums provide the opportunity for the boys to make suggestions about aspects of their School experience that they think could be improved. Changes that they have brought about over the years include double PE lessons instead of two singles, a separate junior lunch queue, and a large clock on the side of the Atrium building, clearly visible from the 3G (no excuses for being late to afternoon registration!). Each Form sends two representatives armed with two ideas to the Yeargroup Council, and from there, we vote for two reps and one idea to submit to full School Council. My thanks to Dominic Must, Xavier Miklichansky-Maddocks, Rory Finn, Arjan Sian, Dominic Hagmann, Tom Banks, Ryan Carey, Marcus Bob and Alex Hulsenbeck, all of whom were fantastic ambassadors for their Forms. Amongst the key issues exercising the collective mind of the First Year were the distribution of water fountains and a proposed increase in football matches. However, the boys voted to put forward to School Council the idea of holding international themed days at school and making changes to the junior lunch queue. I wait with interest to see how their proposals get on.
On the merit front, it’s been a fabulous term for Timmy Lee, who recently secured 50 merits and a trip to see the Headmaster. Well done Timmy. Akshat Mathur is also on 40 merits and becomes our Tutee of the week for his all-round enthusiasm for school life and the kindness he shows to the other boys in his form. Well done Akshat – thoroughly deserved.
It’s been a busy week on the sporting front, but recent results haven’t gone our way. I will let our Captain’s tell you about what happened last weekend in their own words:
(U12 A Rugby) “Another challenging away match for the U12 A’s. This time our opponents were Dulwich College. Despite a great effort from everyone, we lost 15-0. In training we will be working on re-alignment and rucking as we sometimes struggled with these aspects of the game. Overall, we tried hard but it wasn’t enough.” –William Aust
U12B Rugby
“It was another tough match for the Hampton U12B’s but we still did the best we could, coming extremely close to scoring many times. But in the end the score was 35-5 to Dulwich College with a very good try from Gus Carter.” -Ollie Tynan
Well done for the effort the boys’ are clearly putting in on the field, and I look forward to seeing how the A team fare in their Rugby Festival today – I’m sure a report will be forthcoming in next week’s blog.
U12A Football
“On Friday, 25 November, Hampton U12A football team played Wilson’s School. From the kick off we dominated and scored an early goal. Then luck turned for the worse and before we knew it the half ended 1-3 to them. The second half turned into a goal frenzy (a bit like the 5-4 thriller between Crystal Palace and Swansea the following day) and, with penalties either way, the match somehow ended 7-4 to them. Nothing, however could ruin our spirit and we fought to the end. Even though it was another loss, we are becoming a much more collaborative team now and I can see us becoming a good side in the near future. Another big thanks to Mr Sims and co for putting in an amazing effort, as ever for the team.” –Sam Brewster
I’m sure all the boys in the year have enjoyed a rare respite from Homework this week. Although things will start up again next week, they can at least be reassured by the fact that there are only a couple of weeks left until they all get a well-earned break from school and can fully relax and enjoy the festive season. Until then, I’m sure they will continue to partake in every aspect of school life, and I expect next week’s blog to be as full as ever with news and information about what they have been getting up to!
