First Year have fun and experience History

What better way to mark the 949th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings than to go to visit the very spot where Harold and his housecarls made their last stand for Anglo-Saxon England?

The battlefield is always a feast for the imagination and for this year’s new arrivals it was no different. Examining the display of replica weaponry, it was amazing to think how William and Harold’s Warriors even held their battleaxes, let alone fought with them.

The boys also got the chance to sample medieval life in a castle at Bodiam, enjoying a tour of the battlements and trying period costume on for size, medieval gowns as well as armour. They are also delighted to report that the intrusion of the 21st century (in the form of home made cakes of several varieties) complemented the experience splendidly!
