The Hampton School Ski Team has been entering British Schools’ events on snow and on dry slope regularly for the last ten years. Our racers compete at Regional and National events, as well as Alpine events in Europe.
The Hampton School Ski Team trains at Sandown Park every Thursday evening throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms.
The competitive year starts with the Dry Slope season and in June each year the team advertises for new recruits prepared to come to training sessions at Sandown Park, for practice and selection for the English Schools Ski Association (ESSKIA) races.
In September, we take a number of teams to the ESSKIA regional qualifying races at Welwyn Garden City. Our teams regularly qualify for the National Championship Finals, which are held at Norwich in October. Our U16 boys brought back bronze medals from the 2017 races. In October, we take a number of teams to the British Independent Schools Ski (BISS) Indoor Ski Championships at Milton Keynes. At the 2018 event, Hampton skiers finished in third and sixth place in the U16 category.
The Autumn Term races form part of the selection process for the two Alpine events; the British Schoolboys’ International races in Wengen, Switzerland and the Artemis British International Ski Challenge in Pila, Italy. Each year, Hampton sends its top skiers to compete at these events.
The School organises an annual Junior Ski trip for pupils in the Second and Third Year and a Senior trip for boys in the Fourth Year and above.
The Junior trip usually travels at the start of the Christmas holidays and past visits have included Tignes, Les Menuires, Serre Chevalier and Alpes D’Huez.
The Senior trip also travels at the start of the Christmas holidays and have recently visited Gressoney and Bormio in Italy and Winter Park and Heavenly in Colorado.
