Welcome to the Third Year Blog!
On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me…. three subjects combined into one fun-filled day!! That’s right folks, keep reading below for more information on Cross-Curricular Day, coming soon!
Meanwhile this week, Thursday’s PSHE session saw the year group split in half. 3E, 3F, 3G, 3H, 3J had a chance to test out their new oracy skills in a variety of debates that made for compelling viewing! The boys have come a long way since the start of their oracy course and will undoubtedly have learned much about the art of communication, something they can put to great use in the future.
3A, 3B, 3C and 3D benefitted from a session led by members of the Diversity and Inclusion group on language and banter, which got everyone thinking that little bit more carefully about their behaviour and actions towards others. The groups will switch round for next week!
Heads of Year Message
We are looking forward to watching Third Year boys in action during the Cross-Curricular Day on Monday. Similarly, as the Interform Competition remains in the balance, we anticipate a hotly contested Spelling Bee on Friday lunchtime. There is plenty to look forward to between now and the end of term, including Christmas lunch on Tuesday 14 December and the Carol Service at St Mary’s Church in Hampton that evening. Whilst we are looking forward to many opportunities for festive merriment over the coming days, we hope that the boys will recognise the need to maintain their usual levels of good behaviour and mutual respect for teachers and peers throughout.
Arts Award
Third Year boys received a message from Mrs Whitwam via Firefly on Thursday launching the Arts Award. There will be further information delivered next week during a Form Period. We encourage boys to consider signing up for the Arts Award over the Christmas holiday, but please note that boys that are completing a HELP project should not also attempt an Arts Award – it is either/or.

I am delighted to offer the Arts Award course to boys in Third Year who want to pursue a creative interest independently.
The course will run from January to June and, if you complete the course successfully, you gain a qualification equal to a GCSE.

Covid testing
Please continue with the programme of self-administered asymptomatic LFD testing at regular intervals (twice a week) at home right until the end of term. A reminder that boys must not attend the School site if:
- they have symptoms of Covid-19 (a raised temperature; a new persistent cough; a change in sense of taste or smell)
- they have received a positive Covid-19 test result
Boys must take a PCR test if they have any of the symptoms of Covid-19, and receive a negative result before they can return to School.
Boys – Please let us, your Form Tutors or the relevant subject teachers know if you are having any difficulties. Have a lovely weekend.

Interform Spelling Bee
Next week is the latest round in our hotly contested Interform competition for the Wills’ Cup, and it’s the one you’ve all been waiting for… the Spelling Bee!
More details to be announced this coming week, but why don’t you grab a dictionary over the weekend and start learning some long words…?!! Just kidding…!

Christmas concerts!
Don’t forget to book your tickets to the upcoming Christmas Concerts on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December. Lots of our Third Years will be performing, and across the two evenings audiences will be treated to all styles of music from the Beatles and Chilcott to the theme from The Avengers and Brazilian Sleigh Bells! The two evenings will end with performances from the Symphony Orchestra, performing pieces by Dvorak, Beethoven and Glière.

Sick Physics raps!
Don’t worry, ‘sick’ apparently means good…?? Anyway… Some of our Third Year physicists have been putting together some impressive raps about the electromagnetic spectrum and we just had to share them with you!

Pride Society
Hampton’s Pride Society will continue its weekly meetings on Thursday lunchtimes from 12:35pm in the Quiet Room (in the RS & Philosophy Department). All are welcome, whether you identify as a member of the LGBT+ community, or as an ally. The Pride society provides a safe space for Pride, Respect, Inclusivity, Diversity and Equality. We always discuss a wide range of current topics, as well as looking to the future and how we can create a better society for all. You only need to bring an open mind and kind heart. We cannot wait to see you there! This week, we will be looking at film.
Cross-Curricular Day!
Next Monday the Third Years will be participating in a Cross-Curricular Day led by the Geography, RS and History departments surrounding the themes of Flags and Identity. Boys will be off timetable from normal lessons all day, and doing something a little different!
Boys should bring along iPads and something to write with.
Sounds like a fun-packed day of Humanities ahead!
