Welcome to the First Year Blog!

First Year Hamptonians had a fabulous trip this week to Winchester to visit the Science Centre and Planetarium (report below). It was full of buttons and levers, and a highlight was making space rockets and racing them.

Next week Hampton’s Environmental Society have organised Green Week. The objective of the week is to raise awareness of environmental issues with a focus on positive change-making. First Years are invited to bring in books they have read and enjoyed for a book swap in the Library on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes.

I can release some details of the highly entertaining line-up for Giving Day (July 1 and 2) which includes a challenge to score 1557 goals during lunchtime on Wednesday 2 July and an opportunity to watch a highly-competitive staff versus pupils’ darts match.

On Monday, the First Years cricketers are playing Teddington School in the semi-final of the Middlesex Cup. Good luck to our boys!

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend and please send me all your cricket reports!

Ph-abulous Physics

The Winchester Space Centre was great! There were so many different exhibits for us to play around with. One was the Google Maps exhibit, where we found Hampton School in the world. The rocket workshop was also really good fun. We made rockets out of parts and lit the methylated spirit gas to see how far they flew. The planetarium was also a wonderful part of the experience as there was a 360° screen where we had a tour of space. Overall, I would recommend this to friends.

Inspiring RS

On Monday, we went to a Mandir in Neasden and a Gurdwara in Southall. The journey was long but extremely smooth. In the mandir, we learnt about two ceremonies. One of them is called Aarti, which is the ceremony of light. It happens a few times a day. The other one is called Abishek. The mandir is busiest on Saturdays, when they can have over a thousand people.

In the Gurdwara, my favourite moment was eating Langar; langar is free to anyone who wants it. I had chapatti, which is unleavened bread, two curries, and yoghurt. It was very tasty, and I look forward to having it again sometime soon. The school trips are fun, and I look forward to going on more of them.

Half Term Adventures in Dorset

Thank you to Armaan K (1P) for his memories of the recent Dorset Adventure Society Trip:

The moment I stepped out, the gust of wind flew in my face as I started my excursion to Dorset. We did numerous activities which involved high ropes, raft building and more messy stuff. Overall, the trip was great, and I enjoyed bonding with my friends. There was a final level for the water activities where we would get thrown into the sea and I think that was the most fun. We also had some free time in our dorms and on the field to play football. The high ropes were interesting yet scary because we were up extremely high.

Charity Fun Run!

On Monday June 23 at lunchtime, the First and Second Year forms are taking part in the Form Charity fun run from 12.45pm on the School fields. It will be an opportunity for pupils to have some fun whilst supporting our 2024-25 Form Charity partners: Shooting Star, Alzheimer’s Society, and UNICEF.

The dress is sports MUFTI with your coloured t-shirt you received and wore at Avon Tyrrell. If you are unable to find your t-shirt, please wear a top in the same colour The times will be staggered so it is vital you arrive promptly at your appointed time so that we have time for all forms to participate.

Football Transfer Window

As we know, the football season has come to an end and the summer is a crucial part of the year for clubs to develop their squad, sell players and sign new players. This transfer window there has already been some eye-catching deals. For example, Jeremie Frimpong has departed from Bayer Leverkusen to join the club he yearned to play for when he was a child – Liverpool FC.

One of his other teammates from Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz, could also join the Premier League club. Liverpool have been very busy this transfer window as they have sold Trent Alexander-Arnold and are trying to sign Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike.

Chelsea is one of the busiest clubs every summer trying to sign and sell new players to cut down their squad numbers. As of now, they have signed three players who could be crucial to any further development in the team. Chelsea have signed Mamadou Sarr, Dario Essugo and Liam Delap. Not all these names are very well-known around the world. The transfer window closed yesterday, 10 June, and will reopen on the 16 June. This is due to the Club World Cup taking place this summer. There will be many more excitement along the way this summer.

Tutee of the Week

Every week, the First Year Tutor team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with and Mr Hill and Mr Fuldner present him with a certificate and a tasty treat to eat!

Congratulations to Benjamin M (1G) on being named this week’s Tutee of the Week.

Benjamin is always kind and helpful to both his classmates and subject teachers – well done Benjamin!

THE HAMPTON HUNT

Each week I will set you a challenge where you need to find out a random fact, number or indeed anything else around the School – you won’t be able to do this from home! Points for the interform competition will be awarded to the Form with the most correct entries over the course of the term! You have until the end of Wednesday to complete the challenge; you will find out in next week’s blog if you’re correct, and you will be given a merit by your Form Tutor the following Monday. And who knows – you might get to know the School better in the process!
