There were joyful scenes in the Main Hall and Cloisters today as Fifth Year Hamptonians and their families celebrated another landmark year of GCSE success.
Overall, an impressive 85% of grades were awarded at 9-8 (A* equivalent), while 96% were graded 9-7 (A*-A), marking the strongest set of results achieved at this level and maintaining Hampton’s consistent place among the UK’s most academically successful schools.
Grade 9 was by far the most common grade, accounting for 58% of all grades awarded.
Among the many highlights were:
- 96% of grades at 9-7
- 85% of grades at 9-8
- 58% of grades at 9
- More than 80% of grades were 9-8 in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Drama, French, Geography, German, Greek, History, Mandarin, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Music, Physics, Religious Studies, and Russian
- 61 Hamptonians, a third of the year group, achieved nine or more grade 9s, while 36 boys were rewarded with eleven or more of the highest available grade 9s

The year group’s academic achievements come at the end of another highly successful year beyond the classroom. Fifth Year members of the Voices of Lions a cappella choir, fresh from their sell-out run at the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe, secured an impressive 122 Grade 9s between them.

Among them was talented musician Harry, a member of the Junior Guildhall. Joining him for GCSE celebrations was his equally accomplished twin brother, Oliver, a jazz guitarist and member of the Junior Royal Academy, who has recently returned from playing at the National Youth Jazz Festival.

Sportsmen in this multi-talented year group also had much to celebrate, including footballers who helped Hampton reach both the English Schools’ Football Association and Independent Schools’ FA national finals last year, before lifting the Surrey Cup this season.

One of those footballers, Joe, has also enjoyed success in athletics. Following his appearance at the National Schools’ Athletics Championships in Birmingham this summer, he is set to represent Middlesex at the National Schools’ Combined Events Championships this autumn.

The Headmaster, Kevin Knibbs, commented:
“Our talented Fifth Years have truly excelled in achieving such exceptional GCSE results – the strongest collective grades seen at the School. This is not only due recognition of a great deal of commitment to their studies, but also just reward for the enthusiasm, energy and generous-spirited fellowship that characterise this year group. They can be delighted with all that they have achieved, but I’m sure that they’ll join me in thanking their parents and my colleagues for the encouragement, guidance and support provided along the way. Many, many congratulations, boys – enjoy your well-deserved celebrations together before embracing all the opportunities of Sixth Form life with confidence!”
