The Summer Rock Concert brought another electrifying evening of live music to a packed Hammond Theatre, showcasing the remarkable talent, energy and creativity of 55 Hamptonians performing across 21 bands and ensembles.
This year’s concert launched straight into the music, delivering a high‑octane programme of songs spanning classic rock, indie and contemporary favourites. From the outset, the audience was treated to a dynamic and wide‑ranging showcase, with each act bringing confidence, individuality and strong ensemble playing to the stage.
Highlights from the first half included Deliverance’s powerful opening, Vital Signs’ gritty Man in the Box, and a crowd‑pleasing Mr Brightside from Anthropoi. The Atoms’ energetic Crazy Train and GOFM’s lively Arctic Monkeys cover added further momentum, while Ozymandias impressed with an ambitious and assured performance of Bohemian Rhapsody. Among the evening’s standout moments was an expressive rendition of A Song for You by Fifth Year Hamptonians Devan and Harry, which provided a striking contrast and demonstrated real musical maturity. Across the programme, a wide range of styles – from indie and alternative to classic rock – ensured there was something for every musical taste.
In the second half, the stage belonged to the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Rock Bands, who demonstrated the impressive depth of talent across all year groups. The First Year Junior Rock Band performed with energy and assurance, while the Second and Third Year groups delivered confident and crowd‑pleasing sets. The Fourth and Fifth Year Intermediate Rock Band provided one of the evening’s defining moments with a powerful and atmospheric performance of U2’s Where the Streets Have No Name. To close the evening, the Senior Rock Band delivered a strong and assured final set, bringing the concert to a memorable conclusion.
This year’s Rock Concert once again demonstrated the vibrancy and breadth of Hampton’s music scene. From First Year pupils making their Hammond Theatre debut to experienced senior performers playing for the final time, every act contributed to a spectacular celebration of live music.
Rock on!
