Hampton’s Music Department has run a hugely ambitious and successful programme of events during the spring term, with musicians and choristers entertaining appreciative Hammond Theatre audiences at seven performances.

The term concluded with a stunning Spring Concert celebrating Music for the Stage and Screen, bringing over 160 Hamptonians together. The concert opened with a dynamic performance of The Traitors from the Percussion Ensemble, setting the tone for a wonderful musical evening. The Chamber Orchestra followed with a gripping rendition of the iconic theme from Psycho, capturing the audience from the very first bar.

Adding to the cinematic magic, Sinfonia lit up the stage with a rousing performance of The Magnificent Seven — a bold, energetic highlight that had the Hammond Theatre buzzing. Our Lower School Choir, ROAR!, charmed the audience with a joyful version of The Circle of Life from The Lion King, while the Junior Jazz Band brought impressive flair to their lively take on the Spider-Man theme.

A standout moment of the evening was the premiere of an original composition by Upper Sixth musician Daniel F. As winner of the Hampton School Composition Competition, Daniel’s piece Rapunzel was performed superbly by the Chamber Orchestra, showcasing both his creativity and the ensemble’s versatility.

The evening also featured two exceptional solo performances from our talented Upper Sixth musicians. Cellist Gabriel L offered a poised and expressive interpretation of the Lento movement from Lalo’s Cello Concerto in D Minor, while pianist Rajvir D delivered a beautifully crafted performance of The Love from Hess’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. Both were accompanied with by the 50-strong Symphony Orchestra.

To close the evening, the Symphony Orchestra delivered a thrilling finale with selections from Bernstein’s West Side Story — a dazzling, high-energy conclusion to an unforgettable celebration of Hampton’s musical talent.
