Hampton School’s Rock Concert brought a thrilling night of music to a packed Hammond Theatre, showcasing the talent, energy and creativity of rock musicians from across the year groups.
This year’s concert launched straight into the action, offering pure music from start to finish. Blue Hour opened the evening with a powerful rendition of Radiohead’s Creep, setting an atmospheric tone for a dynamic and wide‑ranging programme. The energy built quickly, with bands such as Polyphony and The Thriller Killers delivering high‑impact performances of Walk and Billie Jean, and a wave of heavier rock numbers from groups including Royal Beggars and The Cementheads adding grit and intensity.
The first half showcased an impressive breadth of styles: indie and alternative favourites, classic rock re‑imagined, and original material performed with confidence. Highlights included Blackout’s high‑octane take on Blur’s Song 2, a polished performance of Radiohead’s Just by Vital Signs, and a sequence of memorable sets from Deliverance, Revolver, and Fifth Year soloist Bailey, whose Amos Lee cover provided a stirring contrast. Together with strong contributions from several other ensembles across the year groups, the opening half demonstrated the depth of musical talent within the School and ensured there was something for every taste.
After a short interval, the stage belonged to our Junior, Intermediate and Senior Rock Bands, who demonstrated the impressive depth of talent across all year groups. Junior Rock Band launched back in with Arctic Monkeys’ R U Mine? and Foo Fighters’ The Pretender, followed by the Second and Third Year group delivering confident versions of Oasis’ Stand By Me and Deep Purple’s Black Night. Intermediate Rock Band impressed with Stevie Wonder’s Front Line before bringing the house down with a thunderous take on Led Zeppelin’s When The Levee Breaks. First Year Junior Rock Band showed that the future of Hampton rock is in excellent hands, performing Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit and AC/DC’s Hells Bells with remarkable assurance. To close the evening, Senior Rock Band delivered a final trio of crowd‑pleasers The Killers’ Somebody Told Me, Mötley Crüe’s Dr Feelgood, and a fun, unexpected rendition of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, leaving the audience cheering a memorable finale.
This year’s Rock Concert demonstrated once again the vibrancy of Hampton’s music scene. From seasoned Sixth Form performers to the youngest First Years making their Hammond Theatre debut, every act contributed to a spectacular celebration of live music. Rock on!
