Learning for Life

Learning for Life

  • Introduction
  • Curriculum Enrichment
  • PSHE
  • Leadership Opportunities
  • Community & Partnership
  • Speaker Programme

Our holistic Sixth Form programme encourages you to develop personally and socially, equipping you with valuable life skills. From dynamic Curriculum Enrichment sessions with our neighbours at LEH, and PSHE sessions on topics from student finance to AI, to a wide-range of leadership roles and co-curricular opportunities, Learning for Life is at the heart of the Hampton Sixth Form.

We encourage you to debate, question and challenge, explore sex and health education matters, take on leadership and mentoring responsibilities and hear perspectives and points of view from a wide range of speakers. You will also be supported to learn a range of new life skills from financial management to cookery.

Curriculum Enrichment

In partnership with the girls from Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH), Hamptonians have two periods of Curriculum Enrichment (CE) a week as an opportunity for broadening horizons and the mind. Our CE sessions cover a range of areas and life issues, providing skills which will be vital for a successful time at university and in the world beyond.

What’s on Offer?

The CE carousel, which runs across both years of the Sixth Form, contains certain core sessions supplemented by a range of optional sessions from which boys make a choice. The core sessions are:

  • Thinking Skills
  • Community Service
  • Oracy

There are a wide range of optional courses including an introduction to finance and budgeting; cookery; first aid; Python programming; an introduction to British Sign Language; practical skills; current affairs; and mindfulness. The Curriculum Enrichment sessions in the Sixth Form are interspersed with a range of interesting and engaging external speakers on various topics such as mental health, resilience and making responsible decisions.

Cooking Club

Getting our senior pupils ready for uni life and beyond, the course includes a range of popular easy, tasty and healthy recipes.

Personal, Social and Health Education

Our PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) helps you thrive throughout your time in the Sixth Form and meet the demands of adult life. Delivered by your Form Tutors and a range of external experts, the curriculum focuses on physical and mental health, relationships and sex education, and life beyond School. A bespoke Hampton Curriculum offers sessions specifically requested by Sixth Form pupils with recent lessons focusing on student finance, nutrition and AI. All these opportunities are designed to prepare you for life beyond School.

Leadership Opportunities

There are a range of leadership options in Sixth Form from the School Captains team to the Prefect and Mentoring system. Senior Hamptonians also take on leadership roles in sport, performing arts, community service and by heading many of our Clubs and Societies. Many pupils enjoy a leadership weekend in the New Forest.

Community & Partnership

Partnership is fundamental to our School community and a distinctive aspect of the Hampton ethos. Our aim is for pupils to leave Hampton as happy, educated and well-rounded young men with a sense of social responsibility and the desire to make a positive contribution to society. Community Service forms an integral part of life at Hampton and pupils are involved in a wide range of activities throughout their School careers. Our Community Service programme takes many forms and we work both independently and in partnership with other organisations. Many Hamptonians work with young children either in local primary schools or help with trips and activities for children with learning difficulties.

Speaker Programme

Hamptonians have many opportunities to hear from a wide range of external speakers. There are regular careers talks with representatives – many alumni – from different professions. Departments also arrange specialist talks on their subject throughout the year.

The School also runs the popular Talk! series which invites speakers from many walks of life to talk about their areas of interests. Recent guests have included leading politicians, scientists and journalists.

Find out more about our recent Talk! speakers.
