The annual St Cecilia’s Dinner and Concert saw the Hammond Theatre transformed into a glamorous dining venue for a musical extravaganza performed by Senior Hamptonians.
This unique event in the Hampton School Calendar is named after the patron saint of music and musicians and is always a wonderful occasion. The concert is an important fundraiser for the Hampton School Music Society and helps support initiatives such as the Rare Beasts scheme and the purchase of new musical instruments.
Following a champagne reception, the audience were entertained by some of the School’s top musicians. From pianist Ralph’s toe-tapping rendition of Gershwin’s I Got Rhythm to Jeff’s accomplished performance of Saint-Saëns Oboe Sonato in D Major, there was plenty for the audience to appreciate. During the three course dinner, the Hampton School Jazz Ensemble of Hugo, Ben, Harry and Oliver provided an entertaining musical interlude. The concert concluded with more superb performances from our senior musicians including Upper Sixth violinists Edmund and Harry who played Monti’s Czardas and Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2, respectively, and an outstanding vocal performance from Benedict with Scarlatti’s Già il sole dal Gange. The evening was a huge success and highlighted the outstanding level of musicianship at Hampton.
