A packed audience of Hamptonians, partner school pupils, parents and members of staff gathered in the Hammond Theatre to hear from Mr Jeremy Wrathall, founder and CEO of Cornish Lithium.
Mr Wrathall spoke of his 30 years in the mining industry, and how his company, Cornish Lithium, is part of the drive to find a sustainable domestic source of lithium for the UK. Lithium is key to the effectiveness of renewable batteries and as such is viewed as integral to a carbon neutral future. Used widely in electric vehicles and mobile phone technology, there has a been a massive increase in demand for this remarkable metal. Mr Wrathall explained how his company has the backing of the UK government and hopes to start producing a commercial supply of lithium in a few years time.
Answering questions from the audience about the future of clean energy, Mr Wrathall stressed the importance of moving away from fossil fuels and decreasing our reliance on imported resources. The industry professional offered Hamptonians from across the year groups a valuable insight into the setting up of a company, and how he has had to blend cutting edge scientific knowledge with entrepreneurship as well as using a whole range of skills from economics to geography and all the sciences.
