The annual First Year trip to the Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre was a resounding success, with new friendships forged and lots of fun had in the process.

Over two action-packed days in the New Forest, new Hamptonians had the chance to have a go at exciting activities such as high ropes, archery, orienteering and night walks. The weather could not have been better, with clear blue skies and sunshine creating the perfect backdrop for the First Years very first school trip. Pupils embraced the opportunity to enhance their lateral thinking, communication and team work skills, as they enjoyed the adventure activities.

Sixth Form mentors were on hand to provide guidance and plenty of support, as the First Years built their own enormous trebuchet, and launched tennis balls across the Avon Tyrrell grounds in a series of exciting challenges designed to test height, distance and aim. The trip concluded with a fun raft-building challenge, with each team creating their own rafts and setting sail on the Avon Tyrrell lake, a fantastic end to a wonderful adventure.

Mr Tom Hill, Joint Head of First Year, was delighted with the way the new First Years embraced their first school trip as a Hamptonian:

Avon Tyrrell provided wonderful opportunities for First Year Hamptonians to form new friendships and learn new skills. Whether raft building, team building or archery, it was fantastic to see them embracing each activity with such enthusiasm and positivity.
