The literary talents of Lower and Middle School Hamptonians were on display in this year’s Creative Writing Awards.
The competition was inspired by the visit of Sarah Govett, popular dystopian author of The Territory. Having heard Sarah describe the influences on her writing during a Creative Writing workshop, pupils were challenged to produce a dystopian piece of no more than 500 words and bring to life a new world of their own.
Sarah returned to judge the fantastic range of creative writing entries and selected the following as the top responses in each category:
Middle School
- Winner – Rohan Chen
- Runner-up – Ben Claxton
- Highly Commended – Isaac Crowhurst
Lower School
- Winner – Oliver Booth
- Runner-up – Adam Malik
- Highly Commended – Patrick Moroney
English teacher and organiser of this year’s Creative Writing competition, Mr Ollie Ellsworth, was delighted with the quality of entries received:
We had an outstanding range of entries spanning life on other planets to brutal survival games and totalitarian regimes. All of the entries were an absolute joy to read and demonstrated phenomenal creativity and skill. Congratulations to all entrants for producing such thoughtful and engaging pieces of work.
