We are extremely pleased to share the happy news that Phil Barr has been appointed Head of Hampton Pre‑Prep and Prep with effect from 1 September 2026.
Phil joins the Hampton School Trust from his current role as Headmaster at St John’s Beaumont School in Berkshire and brings a wealth of senior leadership experience. He has previously served as Head of Donhead Prep, Deputy Head and Head of Mathematics at St John’s Beaumont, and as Head of Year 11 and Mathematics teacher at Claremont Fan Court School. Phil is also an experienced ISI team inspector and a longstanding member of the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS).
This important appointment coincides with Hampton and Hampton Prep becoming an all-through 7–18 School. Our Pre-Prep, for boys and girls aged 3–7, will continue to play its vital role within the Trust, offering a joyful and nurturing introduction to School life and providing excellent foundations for our youngest children’s learning, confidence, and curiosity.
Mr Kevin Knibbs, Headmaster of the Hampton School Trust, commented:
“We are thrilled to welcome a leader of Phil’s calibre and impressive track record to the Hampton School Trust senior team. His humanity, headship experience and instinctive understanding of our values equip him especially well for taking the helm at our Pre-Prep and Prep School.”
Mr Phil Barr said:
“I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity to serve as Pre-Prep and Prep Head and I’ve been particularly struck by the community’s obvious togetherness, warmth, and kindness. I shall be joining at an especially exciting time and look forward to building on the School’s cherished reputation for offering a joyful and aspirational education to every child in our care.”
