Sixth Form economists enjoyed an unforgettable and academically enriching trip to Dubai, exploring one of the world’s most vibrant global economic hubs through a blend of industry insight, cultural immersion, and hands‑on learning.

The visit centred on key themes in economics and finance, with pupils gaining first‑hand experience of economic principles in action across the city. A highlight of the trip was an exclusive series of workshops and private talks at PwC Dubai’s prestigious downtown offices. Hamptonians analysed real-time economic events, proposed policy solutions, and presented their ideas to PwC consultants. The budding economists also explored how rapidly evolving technologies — particularly artificial intelligence — are reshaping modern workplaces, offering valuable perspective on the future of global business.

Away from the boardroom, the group investigated economic theory in Dubai’s bustling marketplaces. In the city’s famous gold and spice souks, pupils observed price discrimination and market behaviour up close, while the luxury Burj Al Arab tour provided a practical example of price inelastic demand in the premium hospitality sector. Time at Dubai Mall further highlighted the impact of competition and scale within one of the world’s largest retail environments.

The trip also offered Hamptonians the chance to delve into the cultural and entrepreneurial fabric of the UAE. A visit to Camelicious, one of the region’s most innovative agricultural producers, gave pupils a unique look at the economics of camel milk production — from processing and product development to market distribution. The Sixth Formers also enjoyed a private tour of Terre – a sustainable city, exploring cutting-edge visions of  technology, and global environmental innovation.

Of course, no visit to Dubai would be complete without experiencing its famous landmarks and leisure attractions. Pupils enjoyed a guided city tour, the mesmerising Dubai Fountain show, and a thrilling Desert Safari. Time at Wild Wadi Waterpark, as well as opportunities for shopping and relaxation, provided a welcome balance to the packed academic schedule.

The economics trip offered pupils an exceptional opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world contexts while gaining international perspective on some of the most pressing issues in global finance, sustainability, and innovation. Hamptonians returned from Dubai inspired, informed, and eager to bring their newfound insights back to the classroom.
