First Year Hamptonians swapped their textbooks for wooden spoons as they took part in a special homework‑free Cooking Week.

Pupils were encouraged to don their aprons, head into the kitchen, and prepare a dish from scratch for their families – ideally something that celebrated their culture, heritage, or simply a favourite family recipe. From fragrant curries to perfectly folded dumplings, and the occasional enthusiastic attempt at flambé, our young chefs rose brilliantly to the challenge. Their culinary creations will be brought together in the First Year Cookbook, a wonderful keepsake for pupils and parents alike. Proceeds from the cookbook will support this year’s Form Charity partners: Save the Children, UCLH Charity Cancer Fund and the Single Homeless Project.

The week finished with a cheerful year group tea party, where Hamptonians proudly arrived bearing homemade treats to share with their form. Chocolate cupcakes, sausage rolls, apple pies, sushi — and more than a few experimental surprises — ensured that no one left hungry. It was a delightful celebration of creativity, culture, and community spirit.
