Hampton’s Music Department challenged musicians from across the year groups to tap into their musical prowess and compose an original piece of music.
Hamptonians were tasked with composing a three-minute piece of music inspired by a genre of film such as Action, Horror or Sci-Fi. This year, we were very lucky to have the competition adjudicated by Lucy Walker. Lucy is quickly establishing her place as one of Britain’s foremost emerging compositional voices. She was incredibly impressed with the level of musicianship on display, and had a very difficult decision in deciding the 2026 winners.
Winner: Daniel F – Rapunzel
Second Place: Alexander L – The Fallen
Third Place: Rajvir D – Triumph
Highly Commended: Darshan S – Magic Carpet: The Three Worlds/Desert Adventure; Nicholas S – Interstellar Cataclysm; Siddharth S – Vestiges of Light; David T – It All Began At The Fugitive’s Inn
Daniel’s winning entry Rapunzel will be performed by the Chamber Orchestra at the Spring Concert later this term.
Organiser of the competition, Mr James Ferrier, congratulated everyone who entered for producing some superb pieces of music:
Back to All ArticlesThank you all so much for submitting your compositions – the standard this year was remarkably high, and I was very impressed with the imagination, creativity and technical control displayed in work without any teacher input whatsoever. You can all be very proud of your pieces, and I hope to see lots of you entering again next year!
