Hampton’s vibrant artistic talent has been on full display this week as pupils from across the Lower School embraced a series of hands‑on creative workshops and activities designed to spark imagination and celebrate personal expression.
Pupils took part in Matisse‑inspired clay construction, using bold shapes and dynamic compositions to bring their sculptures to life. A brilliantly received Tie Dye Workshop allowed the young artists to experiment with colour blending and fabric design, resulting in an array of vibrant textiles.
A highlight of the week was a workshop for Second Year Hamptonians, who had the opportunity to work with acclaimed textile designer Jahnavi Iniss. Renowned for her practice celebrating untold stories within Black British history, Jahnavi encouraged pupils to reflect on themes of identity, heritage and personal significance. Each pupil will now produce a textile piece inspired by something important to them, with the finished works set to be displayed as a large collaborative mural in the Dining Hall during the summer term.
In addition to the workshops, the Art Department has launched an exciting new challenge: a competition to design a neckerchief for Harris, the School dog, incorporating Hampton’s distinctive colours of black and yellow. Templates can be collected during lessons or from the Art Office, and all entries should be submitted by Friday 30 January.
Art Week has offered Hamptonians a wonderful opportunity to explore new skills, collaborate with their friends and work alongside a professional artist, all while celebrating the creativity that thrives within our School community.
