A group of Sixth Form hispanists returned from an unforgettable linguistic and cultural adventure to Spain over half term, where they spent the week improving their fluency and deepening their understanding of Spanish life and history.
The main aim of the trip was to enhance pupils’ language skills through intensive morning lessons at the specialist language school in the vibrant Spanish capital city. These engaging sessions gave Hamptonians the opportunity to refine their spoken Spanish, expand their vocabulary, and gain confidence in real-world settings.
In the afternoons, the Sixth Formers swapped the classroom for cultural exploration, enjoying a range of activities designed to bring Spanish language and history to life. Highlights included guided tours of Madrid, a day discovering the rich heritage of Toledo, and an immersive experience at the spectacular historical theme park Puy du Fou where Spanish history was vividly retold – all, of course, in Spanish! Adding a competitive twist to their sightseeing, the group also took part in a riddle hunt, navigating the streets of Madrid to uncover key landmarks while practising their Spanish skills along the way.
To further strengthen their linguistic immersion, the Hamptonians stayed with local host families, which provided an invaluable opportunity to practise conversational Spanish in authentic, everyday settings while sampling traditional Spanish cuisine and hospitality. Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world, and this trip offered our Sixth Formers an important opportunity to experience its cultural significance first-hand.
¡Bien hecho, caballeros!
