The annual First Year residential trip to Avon Tyrrell was a resounding success, offering our newest Hamptonians the perfect opportunity to forge friendships, challenge themselves and, above all, enjoy two memorable days together in the New Forest.

Pupils threw themselves into a wide variety of activities – from high ropes, archery and orienteering to a nocturnal adventure walk beneath the stars. Each challenge encouraged teamwork, problem-solving and communication, as everyone worked with good humour and enthusiasm throughout.

A highlight for many was the engineering-themed trebuchet challenge, where First Years collaborated in teams to design and build enormous catapults before testing their accuracy and distance in launching tennis balls across the grounds. Supported by their Sixth Form Mentors and Form Tutors, pupils showed impressive creativity and determination. The trip culminated in a raft-building competition, with each team constructing and then launching their own vessel onto the Avon Tyrrell Lake – a fittingly energetic finale to the adventure.

Reflecting on the trip, Mr Tom Hill, Joint Head of First Year, was delighted with the way the new First Years embraced their first Hampton School trip:

Our new Hamptonians approached their first school trip with superb spirit and positivity. It was wonderful to see so many budding friendships begin to flourish, and everyone can be very proud of the way they supported one another throughout the two-day adventure. Avon Tyrrell was the perfect way to begin their Hampton journey.
