Hamptonians on ‘Cloud 9’ after record-breaking GCSE success.

There were joyful scenes for Hampton Fifth Years and their families this morning as they celebrated another year of exceptional GCSE results – the School’s best-ever in these examinations.

An extraordinary total of 1263 top grade 9s (58.2%) were awarded to Hamptonians; 83.2% were 9-8s (A* equivalent), and 96% were 9-7 grades (A*-A). Overall, 65 pupils achieved nine or more 9s, with 23 of them securing 11 or 12 of the highest-possible grades.

There were impressive outcomes across all curriculum areas, with 15 subjects recording over 80% of all GCSE grades at 9-8.

Highlights Include:

  • 58.2%: grade 9s
  • 83%: grade 9-8 (A* equivalent)
  • 96%: grade 9-7 (A*-A)
  • 1256: total of grade 9s
  • 65 Hamptonians secured nine or more grade 9s, among whom 23 boys were rewarded with 11 or more of the very top 9 grades.
  • 80%+ grade 9-8: Biology, Chemistry, Classical Greek, French, Geography, German, History, Latin, Mandarin, Maths, Further Maths, Music, Physics, Religious Studies and Russian

There are many notable individual stories to enjoy and the collective results further affirm Hampton’s position as one of the UK’s most academically successful schools. Four of those among this morning’s celebrating Hamptonians – Gabriel, Alexander, Matias and Alex – each achieved a phenomenal twelve grade 9s. Alex will be taking up Hampton Sports Chronicle editorial duties next term, alongside fellow editor Arun, who also secured straight grade 9s.

It was a stellar results day for Hampton’s Fifth Year rowers, five of whom secured victory for their country over the summer at the 2025 GB vs France match. National Gold medallists Johnny, Archer, Matthew, Oliver and Patrick recorded a combined 41 grade 9s between them. Fellow oarsmen Jack and Aidan (12 grade 9s) also combined GCSE success with their achievements on the water, rowing with the Hampton Championship VIII during one of Hampton’s most successful Henley Royal Regattas of recent times

Meanwhile, Fifth Year rugby and football players also upheld Hampton’s distinctive reputation for being concurrently high-performing on the pitch and in the exam hall. Marcus, a gold-medal-winning athlete on the track, secured eleven straight grade 9s.

Among our musicians, gifted trumpeter Ralf, a member of Junior Guildhall and a performer at last year’s Glyndebourne, also celebrated 11 top grades. Congratulations on excellent results also went to Teddy, a budding engineer and proud recipient of a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship.

The Headmaster, Kevin Knibbs, commented:

“Our Fifth Years deserve the highest praise for their exceptional GCSE grades and we are delighted for them and their families . Alongside being rewarded with our School’s best-ever set of examination results at this level, this multi-talented year group has impressed across all areas of School life and fully embraced what it means to be a Hamptonian.

They have done splendidly well, supported by their parents and my dedicated colleagues, and they can embark on Sixth Form life with confidence. We are very excited about what these impressive young men can go on to achieve in future, but first they should enjoy some thoroughly deserved celebrations!”
