This year’s joint Junior School Musical was a rip-roaring success.

Over 100 pupils from Hampton and our neighbouring state girls’ school, Waldegrave, took part in the pint-sized, dapper, madcap musical comedy set in the 1920s, which follows the rivalry between two half-witted street gangs and the well-intentioned, one-time boxer Bugsy who steps in to take control of Fat Sam’s gang and give Dandy Dan and his boys what they’ve got coming.

A talented eight-piece jazz ensemble made up of Hampton musicians from Second Year to Upper Sixth – with a little help from their teachers – was on stage from start to end blasting out the show’s catchy tunes and providing the perfect backdrop to this funny, silly and very messy production.

Splurge guns and custard pies were the hoodlums weapons of choice with Fat Sam’s Grand Slam Speakeasy, the liveliest joint in town providing a burst of colour and glamour in the film noir spoof.

Hampton’s Director of Drama Mrs Alice Jones congratulated all involved in bringing the vibrant production to the Hammond Theatre stage:

Working on Bugsy Malone has been one of my favourite experiences because of the pure joy and energy that came from the cast, crew, band and all the staff involved. The pupils fully committed to our vision for the show and we could not be more proud of what they have achieved – including a standing ovation every single night! Thank you to Mr Ferrier for being such an EXCELLENT Musical Director and the Theatre team who helped make this show such a wonderful production.
