A packed Hammond Theatre audience enjoyed a fascinating Talk! from The Sunday Times Chief Foreign Correspondent, Christina Lamb OBE.
Hamptonians from across the year groups were joined by parents, friends and partner school pupils to hear from the multi award-winning journalist about her fascinating career, which has seen her survive bombings and gunfire while reporting on wars across the world for the past 35 years.
Christina spoke about her interest in civilians caught up in war, who show enormous bravery and humanity when confronted by violence and devastation. She co-authored the book I am Malala with the Pakistani school girl Malala Yousafzai, who was shot after opposing Taliban restrictions on female education in her home country of Pakistan.
The international reporter took a range of questions from the audience and ended by encouraging all to remember the women and girls of Afghanistan who are undergoing oppression by the Taliban – banned from studying in secondary schools and universities, forbidden from going outside for a walk or exercise, from speaking or showing any part of their face or body outside the home, or even from singing or reading from within their own homes.
