What a night for Josh King OH (2023) who made his Premier League debut for Fulham FC in their 3-1 victory at Craven Cottage.

HSC Co-editor James Eggleton reports on an exciting night for the former Hamptonian:

Josh King OH (2023) made his Premier League debut in Fulham’s 3-1 victory over Brighton. Josh came on in the 80th minute for Rodrigo Muniz, as a tactical substitution by Fulham manager Marco Silva, with the game firmly in the balance at 2-1. Having retaken the lead in 79th minute through an own goal, Silva’s double substitution of Josh King and Raúl Jiménez helped seal the game for the Cottagers.

Josh’s footballing career has skyrocketed to new heights in the 2024-25 season, making his senior debut in Fulham’s 2-0 win against Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup during the summer. Since then, he has been a constant feature on the Fulham bench for their Premier League fixtures. He has also been instrumental in commanding the England’s U19 team’s midfield in their World Cup qualifier wins against Lithuania and Bulgaria.

Josh’s meteoric rise through the Fulham academy, which he has been a part of since the age of 8, has not gone unnoticed by Fulham manager Silva, who first included him on the bench in February of this year. Silva praised his ability in his post-match press conference following the victory against Brighton:

I want to say something on Josh King, he is a 17-year-old boy from our academy with a bright future.

Mr David Burke, Head of Football at Hampton, was delighted with the news of Josh’s Premier League appearance:

It was a fantastic moment for the Hampton School community to see one of our own make his Premier League debut. Many congratulations to Josh – it has taken a lot of hard work and sacrifice to get to this moment and it will take more to keep on progressing. We are all very proud of you and are supporting you every step of the way.

Josh’s footballing talent was clear for all to see during his time at Hampton. Most memorably he scored an electric solo goal to etch Hampton into school football history in their 3-1 ESFA final victory against Shrewsbury School held at the Stoke City stadium. In a post-match interview with HSC co-editor Vishal Saha OH (2024), he expressed his hopes for the future.

I am playing with Fulham U18s at the moment, next year hopefully I will play higher, and you never know, maybe you will see me on the TV at some point in the future.

Whilst Josh’s hopes may have been fulfilled, his footballing hunger continues so keep an eye on Fulham’s fixtures this season as there is definitely more to come.
