First Year Hamptonians had an exciting day of learning outdoors on the annual Geography Field Trip to the South Downs National Park.

The stunning landscape allowed for the pupils to learn about geographical features directly from the terrain surrounding them. Hamptonians learned about contour lines on OS maps, and what different kinds of sedimentary rocks make up the South Downs. They also expanded their knowledge on important issues such as land use, conservation, and farming; all of which relate directly to the future of the National Park.

The trail that First Year Hamptonians hiked along featured some breathtaking views of the countryside, including views of the English Channel, and Devil’s Dyke, which is the longest and deepest dry valley in the United Kingdom. This trip was a great chance for pupils to delve deeper into the world of geography, whilst learning from the world around them.
