In a first for Hampton our senior dramatists, alongside pupils from LEH, put on an immersive murder mystery in a whodunnit that kept the audience guessing until the very end.

Loosely based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the action moved from Athens in the 1600s to the present day, as the actors helped the audience decide the culprit behind Hermia’s murder.

With five scenes running simultaneously, and five audience groups moving from a festival set in a forest to a police station, the young actors had to think on their feet to predict how the audience would interrogate the suspects.

Drama teacher Mrs Nikki Plowman was delighted with how the play was received:

A Midwinter’s Nightmare has been such an exciting journey, as Hampton’s dramatists have never taken on immersive theatre before. The cast have had a unique relationship with the play, a sense of ownership as they both wrote and starred in it. The buzz after each show with the pupils, both cast and crew, wanting to know how many of the audience solved our mystery was palpable and thrilling.
