MERIT MILESTONES

SPORT
In the week that Germany were eliminated from the World Cup at the group stages for the first time ever, and England made it through (just about) to the second round, it has also been a sport-filled week at Hampton. Let’s hear about what went on one sport at a time.
“In the Surrey League Tennis Finals, we unfortunately had one of the team members (Nizar) leave st a short notice before the finals took place. We thought carefully about how we could rework the pairs to make it as easy as possible to win. Conor came in as a substitute and managed to win one of the three matches playing with Dominik. Ollie and Theo managed to win two of the three matches meaning Henri and Will had to win 2 of their matches to win. Henri, with his powerful serve, worked amazingly with Will, who provided strong volleys to the opponents. In the final match, Henri and Will beat St Georges 4-0 with Will finishing the game off with a smash. The final score was 5-4 to Hampton meaning the Second Year team won the tournament for the second time in a row, a feat that has never been previously achieved by a Hampton side.” William Heyes
CRICKET
“It was 9.15am when we were all ready to start the match. It was our third to last game and we wanted to make it a good one. Ali walked out and came back electing to bat. Louis and I got a strong partnership and from 50 for 1 after 10, we looked like we were going to go on to get 120. Ali got out cheaply before I got out to a stunning catch. We then were always struggling and ended up 97 for 9 in the innings. We all knew it wasn’t a hard total to chase down but when I took a catch off Ali’s bowling early on, we thought we could make it difficult for them. It went the other way. The two batsmen at the crease settled and stayed in with their number 3 scoring a 50. They won with 9 wickets to spare.” Kyan Soni
“On Saturday, the U13Bs played a game against Dr Challoners Grammar School. We won the toss and chose to bat and despite the opposition’s best efforts, Steve Lamming hit a great 61, with some great help from others we hit 130. We then bowled well with some great catches coming in, one from me off my own bowling. Despite the opposition’s best efforts, we won our first game of the season. Everyone played well and fought till the last minute. A great victory!” William Aust
ATHLETICS
“On Monday, Hampton took a few boys to compete for Richmond in the Middlesex athletics competition. When we arrived, we could hear everyone before we had even entered. Everyone was really excited and wanted to do their event as soon as possible, but most people had to wait until the afternoon to compete in the competition. Everyone in the stadium felt the same which made the atmosphere amazing.” Edward Clark
GOLF
On Tuesday Morning I and number of fellow Hampton pupils headed off to Fulwell golf club for the Richmond schools Golf Competition . We were greeted by the humongous clubhouse where we were briefed about the two competitions, 9 hole and 18 hole. There were several different schools who played with us including Newland house and St. Paul’s. Most of the holes were over 300 yards and I only got the luxury of playing a couple of par threes. After all the score cards had been added up there was the trophy presentation in which Hampton won the senior competition. Cameron Gosal
