Over 120 rowers including Hampton boys, LEH girls, their parents and staff, overcame exhaustion, blistered hands, aching limbs and torrential rain to complete an 80-mile row in aid of Shooting Star Chase.
18 boats manned by rowers and support crew rowed for two days from Radley near Oxford with an overnight stop at Leander Club in Henley. They set off in the early hours, tackled 28 locks and rowed in the dark before the welcome sight of the Hampton and LEH Millennium Boathouse came into view on the Sunday evening.
To date, the rowers have raised over £65,000 for Shooting Star Chase, their local children’s hospice care charity. One of the charity’s hospices is located close by the schools in Hampton and supports babies, children and young people with life limiting-conditions. The money raised will go towards providing care for 700 families each year in the local area.

What an incredible achievement by the Hampton and LEH Boat Club community. At times I wondered if we would make it all the way home, but the resilience, good humour and team spirit was abundant in all of the crews and volunteer supporters alike. It was an incredible team effort and I am immensely proud of all the boys, girls and parents who took part and all of whom showed great character and perseverance to complete this very challenging row.
