It has been a busy first full week back for the First Year boys. Fixtures began in earnest last week, with some very successful results being recorded. The Under 12 cricket teams had a clean sweep of victories against Fulham Boys School, with the A team recording a particularly exciting finish as Naavya S scored an impressive six to wrap up the game. The Under 12 A tennis team has also started the season well. Vishal S and Josh H reported that they had a very competitive and tense set of matches against Whitgift School. The boys were tied at 3-3 going in to the last round; unfortunately, the Hampton boys could not hold off the strong Whitgift team, and eventually lost 5-4. However, their performance was an impressive one. In addition, Rohan C and Tom W represented Hampton in the Surrey Festival of Tennis and ended up a very respectable third in their group. There has also been some swimming, with Ethan F, Leo Z, Rex B and Kieran B-R taking part in the Richmond Schools’ Championships earlier in the week. The boys did very well indeed and came third out of seven schools, with particularly stand out winning performances in the front crawl and medley relays.
The First Year boys also took part in an author workshop with Ross Welford on Monday. They reported that the talk was very interesting and that they particularly enjoyed the interactive aspect. Their highlight was creating a whole short story together and creating some exciting heroes and villains in the process!
Monday marked the debut appearance of some of this year’s First Year boys in assembly, as Zac N, Luke A-B and Theo E took part in the Environment Committee’s assembly, outlining the successful project which they entered into TfL’s Youth Travel Ambassadors campaign last term. Both of the boys spoke very well indeed and we are looking forward to seeing the travel scheme in action and to helping the boys in their quest to cut plastic use at Hampton.
On an individual note, congratulations are due to Findlay B, who was awarded a prize in the Richmond Borough Floral Arts competition. The prize presentation took place at York House in Twickenham on Tuesday – well done, Findlay. Well done, too, to James D who is this week’s tutee of the week
Finally, it was excellent to note that a number of First Years were involved in the Spring Concert this week. Well done to all the boys involved in the various choirs and orchestras – they put on a fantastic show!
Another busy week beckons for the First Years next week, so we wish them a happy and restful weekend and well done on a great week at School.
