Andrew Orr OH (2015) is just one Hamptonian playing a major role in the battle against coronavirus.
Andrew, who is studying for a PhD in engineering at the University of Oxford, has been working with a team of scientists and engineers from across the UK to develop a rapid prototype ventilator called OxVent, which is designed to keep people breathing while they battle the worst effects of COVID-19, potentially saving thousands of lives.
Andrew has been involved in the design and development of the prototype electronics of the ventilator, which is based on a simple circuit board called an Arduino, a piece of computing equipment that Hamptonians use in their everyday Computer Science lessons.
It is hoped that the prototype will be developed within a matter of weeks and following regulatory approval, large scale production could commence later in the spring.
