Welcome to the First Year Blog!
It’s finally the last week of term, and the boys have been enjoying some lovely weather! 1H and their mentors took advantage of the spring sunshine to have an impromptu Easter Egg hunt in the Cloisters yesterday.
The boys have certainly earned a rest after an exceptionally busy term, and we encourage them to use the holidays to relax and recharge (and enjoy the sunshine!) This week saw the final round of the Interform Quiz (more below) – we will give an update of how this affects the overall Interform standings after Easter! There are plenty of things to get involved with over the Easter holiday, so do read on below for some ideas to keep you occupied.
COOKING WEEK
A final note on cooking week from Alex L (1J), who gives us his amazing hot chocolate recipe:
During cooking week I have made a thick hot chocolate recipe. Below is my recipe for it. This is a family portion so if you adjust the amount but keep the ratio the thickness of the hot chocolate should be the same which again you can adjust to your liking.
Ingredients:
500ml of milk
A bag of chocolate powder
A pan
A measuring jug
First, take a measuring jug and pour 500ml of milk, then add two tablespoonfuls of (any) chocolate powder. Stir for a bit and pour the mixture into a pan – make sure that there is at least 5 cm between the mixture and the top of the pan. Then heat the milk and chocolate powder using a stove and stir, making sure you pick up the solid chocolate power on the pan’s floor until it starts to bubble a lot or if the mixture starts rising up. Now turn off the heat, wait for the hot chocolate to cool down, pour it carefully into a cup and enjoy!
INTERFORM QUIZ
This week saw the grand final of the Interform Quiz. 1J and 1P faced off against each other in the losers’ final, to decide who would face the other finalist, 1W. After battling right to the end, 1P emerged victorious, and continued their winning streak in the final, to win their match convincingly. Well done to all the forms for some excellent play in all rounds, and very sporting behaviour between all the teams!
Latin Reading Competition
A big well done to Charlie, William, Zach and Filip for taking part in the Latin Reading Competition. euge! hi pueri linguam Latinam optime dicebant.
PROJECT EXPLORE
A reminder that Project EXPLORE launched this term; this is an optional project for boys to make a piece of creative work based on a local landmark. The Easter holidays, and the better weather they bring, are a perfect time to visit a local landmark and do something creative – entries are due on Friday 22 April, so get visiting!
GET CREATIVE FOR THE LION!
At the beginning of next term, the English Department will be selecting pieces for publication in this year’s edition of Lion Print, our creative writing magazine.
If you are interested in writing a piece for the Lion, please submit one piece of creative writing as a Word document attachment to Mrs Bartholomew by email (t.bartholomew@hamptonschool.org.uk) by Tuesday 19 April – please include a title for the piece and your name within the Word document.
The piece should have been written during this academic year, either as part of your English lessons, or as independent writing you have done in your own time. It must be your own work, and should be between 750-1,000 words of prose (not poetry).
If you are a visitor to The Writers’ Room, or if you have enjoyed your creative writing in English, then this is right up your street!
TUTEE OF THE WEEK
Each week, Tutors in the First Year team nominate a boy who they have been particularly impressed with and Mr Hill and Mrs Peattie will provide the boy with a football to use on the 3G for the week!
This week’s Tutee of the Week is Konrad R (1P). Konrad’s proactive, mature and hard-working nature has really impressed his teachers. Well done, Konrad!
