Hampton’s musicians and choristers celebrated the festive season with three spectacular Christmas Concerts, a wonderful end to a vibrant term of events from our Music department.
Over 320 pupils from across the year groups took to the Hammond Theatre stage to showcase the outstanding talent in our ensembles and choirs. Christmas Concert One included a wonderful mix of performances, ranging from ROAR! (our Lower School choir) giving an exuberant rendition of Harry Style’s As it Was, to the Hampton Sinfonia who performed the festive classic Have Yourself a Little Christmas with plenty of seasonal cheer. The Percussion Ensemble performed a playful medley from the popular video game Super Mario superbly arranged by Upper Sixth Hamptonian Sohan.
A highlight of the first two concerts was the appearance of our First Year choirs who made their debut on the Hammond Theatre stage. The young Hamptonians entertained an audience of family, friends and staff with the festive song The Twelve Days of Christmas, along with Mariah Carey’s iconic seasonal favourite All I Want For Christmas is You!
Christmas Concert Three began with Voices of Lions‘ singing It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, which ensured everyone had a smile on their face. The Brass Band gave a superb rendition of the classic Queen song Bohemian Rhapsody and the Chamber Orchestra performed Prokofiev’s Troika, a delightful recreation of a winter sleigh ride. A highlight of this year’s concerts was the impressive solo performance by Upper Sixth violinist Harry, who played Symphonie Espagnole composed by Lalo, superbly accompanied by the 60-strong Symphony Orchestra. The audience also enjoyed a wonderful rendition of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance No. 8, which perfectly captured the spirit of a traditional folk dance. There was a fantastic end to the musical celebration, as the orchestra performed Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture with aplomb.
Director of Music, Mr Daniel Roland, praised all involved:
Back to All ArticlesI seem to say this every year, but I genuinely mean it… These young musicians are an exceptional bunch! The talent on display across all ensembles and choirs was impressive, and the enthusiasm and sense of joy on the stage (and back stage!) was infectious! Well done to all the pupils and staff involved in what were three memorable concerts!
