The boys have been making the most of the blue skies and sunshine this week and started off with a good old-fashioned race.  We say well done to all of the finishers and thank you joint-winner Chris for the following report:

On Monday 14th November the whole of the Second Year got out onto the playing fields and ran two laps of the field.  It was a tight race between Chris Hardy (2L) and Kabir Sait (2P) at the top ending up with the same time. The top six of this race would decide who got to go to the Richmond Schools competition for cross country. These were the top six: Kabir Sait (2P), Chris Hardy (2L), Louis Middleton (2L), Ben Freer (2W), Luke Walsh (2W) and Jack Pearce (2J). It was a thrilling race all round from top to bottom.Chris Hardy – 2L

The Second Years have also been involved in a range of competitions outside of School.

On Sunday, Thomas Wykes (2B) performed with the Hampton Clarinet Ensemble in the Kingston Festival of Performing Arts instrumental competition winning 1st prize in their class (Under 16 Ensembles).  In addition to this they were awarded the Addison Denny Rosebowl for the best performance in the Duets and Ensembles category.  Look out for the trophy in the Hampton trophy cabinet!  Well done, Thomas! Many thanks to Miss Estal for entering the boys into the competition and for all her support and guidance.

We also hear from Adithya about his recent success in a Tamil speech competition:

We had to memorise a 3 paragraph essay about efforts and success.  In my age group I came third.  I was especially pleased as it was my first time reading the language.  Adithya Arvind2P

The U13A and B Rugby teams spent their Saturday morning at Haliford.  Well done to the B team boys who won their match 35-10. The A team had a tougher time.  Ben explains how this tough game unfolded:

On Saturday 12th of November we played our tough local opposition, Haliford. Ethan Knight (2J) opened the scoring with a fantastic try, but Haliford soon equalised. Hampton then went 3-1 down but Thomas Ketel (2P) intercepted before offloading to Ethan Knight.  3-2 Back in the game. We pulled back but once again Haliford took a 2 point lead and that’s how it stayed. Hampton played really well but we couldn’t keep up with Haliford’s fast paced game.  Ben Freer – 2W

Here Alessandro tells us about a fun way to spend your Tuesday lunch time:

Classics Society is a lunchtime club on Tuesdays where we (Lucas Cairnes from First Year), Alessandro Russell, Sam Berthon and Conor Bleach all Second Year) play a dice based game set from a gladiator’s perspective. The aim of the game is to gather money and gladiators, to increase your fighting stats and to win many gory battles. Please the Gods in order to gain luck and you may get an advantage in combat. Run by Mr Barber this club is a must-join for all Classics fans.  Alessandro Russell – 2W

Finally we say a big well done to the following boys who have had received merit certificates this week:  Chris Hardy, Alex Bush, Kyle Seth, Luke Jansen (10 merits), Fred Darley, Billy Hutchings, James Emery, Ethan Clapham, Alex Mehta, Jack East, Edward Finnett, Abhi Sundaram and Sohan Sodhi (20 merits), Sam Colvine (30 merits), Nayaaz Hashim (40 merits) and Ben Francis (50 merits).
