Clubs & Societies

If excitement is your thing, then you’ll love the Adventure Society! From water sports, orienteering, camping, paintballing, mountain biking and skiing, this club is all about having fun and challenging yourself both mentally and physically. Trips and activities run throughout the year, locally, nationally and internationally. So, get ready to push yourself, try something new and make memories that will last a lifetime.

First Year pupils enjoy a mountain biking weekend in the autumn term and a multi-activity climbing and canoeing trip in the summer term. Second Year Hamptonians can take part in a water sports activity weekend at Poole Harbour which focuses on sailing and kayaking. Third and Fourth Years also enjoy a multi-activity course in Snowdonia which includes mountain walking, rock climbing and abseiling, mountain biking and canoeing.

In addition to the regular Adventure Society trips, senior Hamptonians embark on expeditions abroad. Destinations have included Malawi, Namibia and Borneo. The purpose is to introduce the pupils to different cultures and communities alongside exploring countries by boat, hiking and safari.

SKI TRIPS

The School organises an annual Junior Ski trip for pupils in Third Year and a Senior trip for Hamptonians in the Fourth Year and above. The Junior trip usually travels at the start of the Christmas holidays and past visits have included Tignes, Les Menuires, Serre Chevalier and Alpes D’Huez. The Senior trip also travels at the start of the Christmas holidays and have recently visited Gressoney, Bormio and Passo Tonale in Italy.

For those who want to get creative and explore all things artistic! You’ll learn new techniques and try out new materials, experiment with photography, ceramics and print making and work on projects both individually and as a group. We’ll encourage you to enter local and national competitions, who knows, your masterpiece may win!

GCSE and Sixth Form Art pupils also use the Art Club sessions to build up their portfolios and work in their sketchbooks.

For all buzzing apiarists! Meet the 40,000 bees who live in our hives and play such a crucial role in pollinating flowers across our 28-acre grounds. Learn how to care for hives, the fascinating behaviour and life cycle of the honey bee and enjoy some delicious Hampton honey. Full bee suits provided!

Biology Club is aimed at junior boys helping them develop and nurture a love of the natural world.

With the chance to meet and learn about the Biology department’s various resident animals including our Giant African Land Snails, Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches and Max the Corn snake, other activities include extracting DNA, hunting invertebrates and even watching an eye dissection!

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is run jointly with our neighbours at LEH. The CCF offers pupils the chance to develop leadership, teamwork and resilience through challenging, hands-on activities. Cadets gain practical skills and confidence, from fieldcraft and navigation to adventure training, and enjoy opportunities to take on responsibility as they progress. It’s a rewarding way to push yourself, make lasting friendships and try something different.

Things that go fizz, pop and bang! If you adore science you’ll love trying out all our fun experiments, including making bath bombs and growing crystal gardens, with our Sixth Form science mentors.

Chess is hugely popular at Hampton and whether you’re new to the game or an aspiring grandmaster, Chess Club offers the perfect environment to develop your skills. Hampton has an impressive track record of success, securing the title of National Chess Champions in 2025 and 2023 and representing England at the World Schools’ Team Chess Championships in Washington DC in 2025, finishing joint third overall and ranking as the top European team.

Classics Society is perfect for those who have a passion for the Ancient world. Travel back in time with exciting talks, trips to plays and exhibitions and plenty of hands-on activities including mosaic making. You will also have the opportunity to compete in the annual Latin Reading competition.

Scale new heights on our eight metre high state-of-the-art climbing wall. Whether you’re an absolute beginner or a future mountaineer this club is open to all abilities. Climb high and discover new skills, great preparation for lots of our Adventure Society trips too!

Join us at Code Ninjas, where no prior coding experience is needed and everyone is welcome! You’ll explore exciting activities including:

• Micro:bit: Dive into the world of microcontrollers and create cool projects.
• Python Turtle: Learn to code by drawing fun shapes and patterns.
• Basic Game Development: Create your own simple games and challenge your friends.
• Robot Car Control: Program and control robot cars to navigate through obstacles.

Join this friendly, welcoming hands-on club where everyone can become a Ninja coder!

Stretch your mind with cryptic crosswords. Learn how to crack cryptic clues and solve complete crosswords as you become more confident. New and experienced cruciverbalists welcome in this fun, brain stretching club, which is a great way to make new friends.

Sharpen your aim and hone your skills. Whether you’re aiming for 180 or just want to play with friends, you’re very welcome, so come and join us and give darts a go!

The Hampton Environmental Society is a pupil-led group dedicated to promoting sustainability, innovation, and environmental awareness across the School community. Members take the lead in organising key initiatives such as Green Week, which raises awareness through creative activities and challenges, and the Hampton Innovators Competition, which encourages pupils to design practical solutions to real environmental issues.

The Society has helped introduce new recycling schemes, improved biodiversity around the School grounds, and supported energy-saving initiatives. In 2025, the Society’s efforts were recognised nationally when Hampton School was awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction for its outstanding commitment to sustainability. It provides a space for curious, motivated pupils to explore global environmental questions and turn ideas into action. Above all, it empowers Hamptonians to make a meaningful difference—locally and beyond.

Hampton offers a huge range of co-curricular performance opportunities. The following clubs are run by the Drama Department and take place during lunchtimes.

JUNIOR DRAMA CLUB

Open to all boys in the First, Second and Third Year, this club meets during lunchtime, once a week. Pupils work on their improvisation and performance skills through a series of games and exercises.

TECHNICAL THEATRE CLUB

Pupils meet on an ad hoc basis throughout the year and learn how to operate and programme the latest lighting and sound equipment in The Hammond Theatre. Hamptonians participating in this club will be under continual guidance and supervision by the Theatre team and regularly provide backstage support for our Drama productions.

Genocide80Twenty is a pioneering, pupil-led campaign and co-curricular club at Hampton School in London, dedicated to raising awareness about the Holocaust and modern-day genocides.

Genocide80Twenty began in 2014, when a pupil asked history teacher Andy Lawrence why they had never been taught about the genocide in Rwanda. Mr Lawrence, who was awarded an MBE in 2022 for his work on genocide education, helped pupils investigate the question, and their research found that around 80% of young people in the UK had never heard of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. That statistic gave the group its name and its purpose: to make sure the other 20% grows. Today, pupils research and publish educational newspapers and books, work with more than 100 partner schools worldwide, take their campaigns to the House of Commons, and lead Holocaust Memorial Day assemblies and remembrance events. The school’s work has been recognised with Beacon School status from the UCL Centre for Holocaust Education.

Geography Club aims to enrich pupil’s geographical knowledge through games and quizzes. The main aim of the club it to prepare for the World Wise Quiz for which the School competes against local schools. The quiz is hosted by Hampton and takes place in December. The focus for the rest of the year is games and puzzles from around the world. Examples include Pong Hau K’I from China and Five Field Kono from South Korea, both of which involve strategically moving pieces around a grid.

Hampton Sports Chronicle (HSC) is a magazine written, edited and designed by pupils, which is published annually during the summer term.  Articles focus on all aspects of Hampton School sports, including match reports, profiles and interviews, featuring current and former Hamptonians. Aspiring journalists meet one lunchtime each week to discuss the progress of the magazine.

HAMPTON SPORTS CHRONICLE

In recent years, HSC has also moved online with a digital platform that complements the printed version of the magazine. Budding sports journalists are able to post match reports, interviews and features on Hampton School sports throughout the year. The HSC website can be accessed here.

The flagship club of the History Department is the History Society, which meets once a week for talks, debates and quizzes. This society is open to pupils of any year group and as well as enriching their experience of history, it is also a brilliant opportunity for them to mix with Hamptonians from across the School and not just in their own year.

Lego Architecture Club is open to First and Second Year pupils and is a very popular club with Lower School Hamptonians.

We have a large selection of Lego pieces and use our imagination in working with different themes, enjoying the challenge and play without limitations. Projects include designing and testing bridges, imagining a future city, environmental design and learning from modern buildings.

Lower School Maths Club is open to Second and Third Year Hamptonians who enjoy the challenge of solving maths problems. Pupils work in teams to solve tricky numerical puzzles such as Cross Numbers and Shuttles, where they learn how to work together and check each other’s solutions. Each year, a team of four pupils is selected to compete against other schools in the UKMT Team Challenge.

Model United Nations (MUN) is a pupil-led simulation of the real United Nations and gives young debaters an opportunity to engage with the key international issues of the day. Hamptonians from across the year groups meet once a week to discuss and provide solutions to a breadth of topics facing the world today.

Pupils also have the opportunity to attend real-world MUN conferences which run throughout the academic year. Pupils work as the representative of a country or organisation, and must solve topical problems with other delegates.

Our French, German and Spanish Clubs are a fun way for younger boys to practise and reinforce their language skills in an informal setting, in particular their speaking skills.

Packed full of games, music, cultural input, film clips and other exciting activities they also help boys gain an appreciation and understanding of other cultures. These clubs are usually run by our young native-speaker Language Assistants, who are always popular members of the School community.

Philosophy Club is an opportunity to discuss ideas and explore concepts beyond the RS and Philosophy syllabus. “Philosophy” comes from Greek words meaning “love of wisdom.” Philosophy uses the tools of logic and reason to investigate the ways in which humans experience the world. It teaches critical thinking, close reading, clear writing, and logical analysis; it uses these to understand the language we use to describe the world, and our place within it.

Different areas of philosophy are distinguished by the questions they ask. Do our senses accurately describe reality? What makes wrong actions wrong? How should we live? These are philosophical questions, and philosophy teaches the ways in which we might begin to answer them. Philosophy Club is open to First and Second Year pupils and is a very popular club with Lower School Hamptonians.

Open to all First and Second Year pupils, Physics Club meets once a week. Most sessions include building or making, while some sessions will involve demonstrations of the more exciting equipment we have in our store. Recently the boys have made and launched hot air balloons, made balloon-powered model cars and explored the connection between musical instruments and standing waves using a Ruben’s Tube.

Psychology Club runs weekly and is open to First to Third Year Hamptonians and aims to promote enthusiasm for the subject in Lower School pupils. We discuss topics such as:

• Why do we dream?
• What is intelligence?
• Should smoking be banned worldwide?
• Do animals have feelings?
• Is nature more important than nuture?

Open to pupils in the First to Third Year, this very popular club allows pupils to pursue their interest in Design and Technology and hone their practical skills using our fully equipped workshops or CAD/CAM equipment.

Recent projects have included solar powered lamps, pewter casting, e-textiles, and fidget cubes.

The Writers’ Room gives pupils the time, space and opportunity to develop their creative voice and story writing skills. Open to all year groups, pupils are invited to attend a range of fun and focused creative writing courses run over lunchtime, and to become part of a community of writers within the School.
