Learning at Pre-Prep is a joyful adventure, full of discovery, imagination and new beginnings.
During their time at Pre-Prep, children progress through the Early Years Foundation Stage – Kindergarten and Reception – and Key Stage One, which includes Year 1 and Year 2.
The vast majority of boys move on to Hampton Prep via our 7+ assessment, and from there continue on to Hampton, benefiting from a guaranteed 11+ place and an exceptional seamless 7-18 education. Our girls are supported to move on to a range on leading schools at 7+ including LEH, fully prepared and excited for the next stage of their education.
1. Who can apply?
Entry at age 3
Children join Kindergarten in the September following their third birthday. Pupils may attend full time, or a minimum of five morning sessions, or the equivalent – i.e. two and half days, taken across the week. It is recommended that children attend school for at least five mornings to benefit from our learning environment.
Children born between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024 will be entering Kindergarten from September 2027. Registration for this entry point is open.

Entry at other ages
Children wishing to join Hampton Pre-Prep in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 will be invited to visit the School prior to entry, as and when places become available. During the visit, they will meet the Head of Pre-Prep and spend time with prospective classmates.
The visit will also include teacher-led, skills-based assessments to help us establish each child’s overall academic potential.

We will acknowledge your registration on receipt. Children may be registered for entry at any time after their birth and early registration is recommended.
4. Kindergarten Play Visits
We invite all Kindergarten applicants to attend a Play Visit, a relaxed, fun session where children can explore and play while our staff get to know them. The visit helps us, and parents, assess whether Hampton Pre-Prep is the right environment for their child, and one in which they will be happy and thrive. We look for curiosity, focus, persistence and initiative, as well as age-appropriate language and number skills.
Children who enjoy discovery, and who love asking questions and solving problems, flourish at our Pre-Prep and are well-prepared, confident and ready for the next step.
Registration is open for children wishing to enter the Kindergarten from September 2027 and Play Visit assessments will be held on Thursday 3 December 2026 and Saturday 6 February 2027 (children are only required to attend one of these sessions).
5. Results
Parents are notified of the outcome of the Kindergarten Play Visit within ten days. Families receiving offers will be given an acceptance deadline, and a deposit will be required to secure the place.
The same process applies for any families receiving occasional place offers.
6. Useful Information
Please note that the Pre-Prep is situated in a period building which is not suitable for children with mobility difficulties.
